CHAPTER II

"AUTOSUGGESTION or AUTOGENOUS TRAINING OF SCHULTZ"

 

We saw the decisive causes of the distortions of our personality in this present life. The knowledge of that general panorama helps the work of internal re-equilibrium, but let us starts from where we feel today, without investigating the past. Up to the psychoanalysis, that was the only existent technique, they tried to remember the past in order to free them selves. In spite of this technique be very useful for certain problems, though, we prefer to begin working the effects of the past in the present moment, analyzing that which we are today and leaving from there for a transformation.

Our current personality is constituted by the genetic factors, by the physical constitution, metabolisms, temperament, tendencies. Each one is as we are, because, according to the oriental tradition, we generated karmic causes in the past. That fundamental reality suffers clashes with the environment through stimulus and lived experiences. There goes, then, being formed new structures linked to the conditionings - many positive, but others, negative.

Relatively to the genetic factors, up to now, we could not make a move. It happens, however, that the "Project Genoma" is proceeding to the mapping of the human genes, in the sense of getting, through the genetic engineering, to avoid the transmission of hereditary diseases. As a consequence of these researches the science is, also, in the attempt of cloning the human organs. In spite of that, the man doesn't have self-control on his own genetics.

Relatively to the bodily, in spite of the plastic surgeries that they already make as changes in the height etc., little we can modify. In the metabolisms we can interfere a little if we organize the emotional. In the temperament and in the tendencies we can begin moving a little more, in a very conscious way. Now, in the conditionings, we can move at will. They are appendixes that are structuring in this life and it is with them that we will work in the techniques of auto equilibrium. If they be not worked, they can incorporate to our fundamental structure.

The only resource that we dispose to provoke an interior modification is the one of the power of the thought.

Among other thinkers, the Teacher "José Henrique de Souza" affirms: "The man has inside of himself the generator of sadness and happinesses." Abraham Lincoln: "Most of the people have the happiness that decides to have in their minds."

The specialists of the subject say that we only use 10% of our mental potential. The autogenous training takes us to enlarge that percentage.

There exists already apparel to measure that power of the thought. We know that, to make any movement, it is necessary that an order comes from the brain and it moves at the speed of 4 km / minute. Electrodes are put in the surface of the skin close to the muscles that will participate in the experience, as for instance, close to a group of muscles lifters of the arm. That apparel enlarges 4 million times the energy that comes from the brain for those muscles. Well then, it is verified, then, easily, that the simple fact of thinking in lifting the arm, without however making the smallest effort, it provokes a current in the corresponding muscle and that is accused by the oscilloscope. It means that incentives arrive, called - subliminal - and that are not noticed by the conscience, but that show that the thought is already affecting those muscles.

The day in which the man be convinced that the thought will really make all the difference wanted in his life and in fact pass to think positively, not allowing the lodging of negative thoughts, he will be finding the road that, allied to the transformation of the emotion, will be capable to take him to his liberation.

The technique is based in the "Psycho-cybernetic". The unconscious accepts whatever is put by the conscious. Let us use the same mechanism that took us to form undesirable habits and to put in the computer unbalanced cards. Using that same conditioning mechanism, we will change those cards for others balancing.

1° Step - Relaxation.

To loosen the whole musculatures in a way coordinate with our breathing; progressive relaxation, mentioning each part of the body and observing if we are in fact relaxing. Besides, it is the best rejuvenating, much better than we can imagine. Before deepening in the relaxation, to put that, even in state of relaxation, if an emergency situation appears, we will be prepared to react normally.

2° Step - To see which interior states disturb you.

Try to notice which are the reactions and sensations that more disturb you.

3rd Step - Creative formulation.

Let us begin with the scientific definition: "A suggestion is creative when formulated by a sentence, declaration or series of words that express a presence, condition or state of being existent here and now." I bring the future to the present. For instance:

If I am going to ask an increase: "I speak to the boss feeling calm and safe."

If I will make a test: "I feel perfectly calm making the test."

If I want to lose weight: "I am satisfied with small amount of food."

If I am aggressive: "I solve the situations criterion and, calm."

If I want to stop of smoking: "I feel perfectly well in the absence of the tobacco."

Through the practice of the technique, those affirmatives will become true.

It is necessary attention, however, because the suggestions can be "no creative" when they are dubious, put for accomplishment in the future, done with the verb in the conditional.

 

EXAMPLES OF SUGGESTIONS

They don't explain as, where, when, nor they express conviction. It brings implicit that I am not now; it stays vague and the unconscious doesn't know when he should operate.

It happens that the Creative ones can be positive as the one of the previous relationship and negative as the one of the following relationship:

 

Nothing happens as we plan

nothing good happens to me

That is too good to be true

I don't deserve so much luck

This gives me indigestion, or it makes me sick

I don't get

The world is against me

I have a tremendous bad luck

I don't remember my memory is terrible

I am tired!

 

When doing purchases: I never get to find what I am seeking!

It is common to use false modesty: Somebody says: "What a good food!" The person answers: "It is kindness of you. I don't have talent for kitchen." Somebody praises the clothes and the person comments on: "It would be, if I were not so fat!"

4° Step - Creative imagination.

The power of the word is enlarged by the feeling of who pronounces her. The more we impress the drift of the meaning and we imagine the state of being, larger the power. Emerson affirmed: "The force of a sentence depends a lot on the support that is given by the one that is using it".

The mental images put in our conscious mind should be the images of the wanted final result, as fact already accomplished. As well as it happens with the creative formulation, the creative imagination should be used to imagine the condition or state that one want to reach as already existent here and now. Imagine the result with details. Live the fact.

 So fort is the power of the creative imagination that, if the person lies down and imagine in full detail that she is riding the bicycle, she will feel all of the consequences of the exercise, inclusive aching legs. Today it is a proven fact in the medicine that, when the person exercises in her imagination, with clear details, the chemistry of her body makes alterations and adjustments almost identical to the caused by the real physical exercise.

In a controlled experience, psychologist R. A. Vandell demonstrated that the mental exercise of throwing arrows in an objective improves the aim as much as if the person really threw the arrows.

The magazine Research Quarterly announced an experience on the effects of the mental exercise in the ball game to the basket. Three groups of students were submitted to a test of twenty days. The first group made training in the usual way, throwing the ball to the basket for twenty minutes a day. The results of the first day were written down and of the last day also. The second group was examined in the first and in the last day, without their components having made any exercise among those days. The third group passed twenty minutes a day imagining that they threw the ball to the basket. When they "slipped up", they imagined that they corrected the aim. The first group, that made real exercises presented improvement of 24 percent in the use of the releases. The second group, that didn't make any training, didn't show improvement. The third group that trained just in the imagination improved 23 percent. This experience is told by Maxwell Maltz in his book Frees your Personality.

Imagine the details; the more clearly, more powerful it turns the force of the creative imagination and more quickly it is reached the objective.

Among truthful cases of the medical literature is the one of a boy that, during years, complained about having a thorn in the throat. The doctor fakes that he removes it, and, to give reality to the action, he puts small barb in the tweezers. Believing in the retreat of the strange body, the boy is freed of the evil in the throat.

The mechanism of the mind is the imagination. When I think I make images. Everything that we think and we say is images in our mind before the verbal expression. The subconscious cannot say the difference between a real experience and one imagined with clear details and it reacts to both as if they were true. Einstein said: "The imagination is more important than the knowledge." The Psycho-cybernetic speaks a lot about the intuition and it relates creative imagination with intuition. Julio Verne (1.828-1.905) is an example of creative imagination linked to the intuition.

Any sincere and true desire can turn into reality. If, for instance, what worries us is the lack of memory, imagine yourself as a person that has great memory that remembers everything. If you have a problem of health, see yourself healthy, prosperous. If the person is insecure, see yourself facing with safety the situations that you fear, but in a way safe, confident.

 The power of the imagination can work against or in favor. There exist people that, for instance, are always imagining that there will have a disaster. When it happens, they say: "I knew!" We conjecture a lot on future events that we fear and that goes on adding a negative force inside of us. For instance, somebody that will play piano in public or somebody that is going to give an inaugural class. He fears the failure instead of trusting the success.

5th Step - Conviction.

Have a conviction to believe in the new form of being. If the person doubts, the mind becomes separated. Let us say that she wants to neutralize insecurity:

 

  I have to renounce to the fear. It is such a powerful mechanism that creates what we fear.

I want to call the attention for the fact that this is exactly the mechanism of the ceasing of the suffering, because the suffering is nothing else than the cultivation of thoughts that provoke in us unpleasant emotions. If we got to transform those thoughts, we would see, surprised, that we would also interrupt the suffering. The aphorism "we are what we think", is deeply true. The largest sufferers, the people lamented, depressed, that we so much know in the circle of our relationships, they are always those that stick to the sad facts of the past and they feed them with the constant renewal of the images that those facts provoke in their mind. If they decided to transform their thoughts, substituting the drift of the images, soon they would improve their state of mind. It is important to notice that even to release of a suffering it is necessary gigantic willpower.

6° Step - Repetition.

Calm repetition of the suggestion. It can be 20, 30 and up to 40 times.

7° Step - To work the effects.

Work the effects for acquisition of the balance, in other words, what disturbs me today and not to worry with the causes of the problem. The reflection should not be centered in the negative emotion, in other words, in the unbalanced state, but in the positive state. For instance, if I want to work sadness, or rage, I won't be asking why I feel in such a way, but I put the opposite - happiness or calm and understanding. I have to break the negative process. I need to resign to the sensation of badly; I need to want to change. For this liberation of the negative, a very efficient resource is the one of Neuro-linguistics.

If I dwell on the reasons that led me to be sad or angry, I gather on the computer all that is similar and all the vibrations related and I sink increasingly. That is why it is so difficult to leave the negative state, because the person wants to find the solution inside of the problem, inside of the pain.

When you don't get to surpass in the imagination, for instance, the fear of speaking in public that is hovering in the bottom of the mind, do general suggestion, disentailed of the objective: "I feel calm, tranquil, safe and happy."

8.° Step - Sense of humor.

I don't win by the logical argument and front will. I should execute a soft work that takes to tire the mistake, the unpleasant, by the substitution of the right. Coué, Emile (1.857-1.926), pharmacist and French psychotherapist, author of a cure method by autosuggestion, before the Cybernetics had explained the mechanism of our internal computer, he already spoke about the "converted effort." He said that the change cannot be with iron and fire. He didn't know the reason, that is the grouping of the similar ideas, but he saw clearly that the front attitude increased the negative state instead of softening it. It is a disguising work but firm. Inside of the specifications above mentioned, we give the order and the unconscious knows what to do to reach the objective. Fears, habits, addictions, phobias, insomnia, headache, everything goes on inverting.

9 º Step - Theosophic ethical principle.

Parallel to the inversion of the cards, there should have an analysis of what we want to reach; to see if the objectives that we have for goal are in agreement with the Justice. There is a danger of doing suggestion to calm the conscience after having practiced a mistake. For instance: I made something in disagreement with my degree of conscience, let us say, an intrigue, and I want to feel well and calm.

 

Considerations:

Don't impose limit of time for attainment of an objective. If you don't get in the period you will have failure sensation. The unconscious looks for the objectives without idea of time and, also, if I continue maintaining the period, I am automatically postponing the solution of the problem.

Don't wait for immediate results. Entrust the unconscious that is available and anxious to work and that, certainly, will direct us for the wanted objective.

Never blame for the flaws that you detect in yourself. We are not bad because we go wrong. To err is human.

The state of happiness is not found by chance, but it can be created through the power of the positive thought. A Japanese dictation says: "When the face smiles, the sun rises in the heart."

To chisel the personality, research the objectives that we want to reach in the several areas - social, familiar, physical, mental, affectionate, spiritual and even financial. Then, formulate the suggestion according to the need, reaching that which we want to modify.

Don't want to do great number of modifications at the same time. If the problem is complex, fragment it.
